History of the Church of God
From the Creation to A.D. 1885
Colloquially known as Hassell's History, this is the definitive book for Old School Baptist history. Though the author splits it into two parts (chapters 1-19 are a general history of the church from creation to the 19th century; chapters 20-27 are a history of the Kehukee Primitive Baptist Association, and Primitive Baptists in America), I think of it as being organized into three parts: a commentary on the Bible (chapters 1-8), a history of the churches that followed the closing of the canon (chapters 9-19), and a history of the author's church association and Primitive Baptists at that time (chapters 20-27).
I have tried to preserve the original format as best as I could. Being a 19th century book, some spellings may seem unusual, but I kept these in place. I tried to include all of the styling (such as italics and small caps), but may have missed some. There were some clear spelling errors that I corrected (chapter 9 had the most errors that I found, and chapter 7 the second most), but there are still errors in the text. I will update the web source one chapter at a time as I find more, and will update the ebook versions after reviewing the whole book. Currently I'm finding the most errors around references, as these were converted from Roman numerals to Arabic numerals (except for the title page, which I kept at Roman numerals for nostalgia). If you find any errors, please reach out and I will update the source.
